Getting Started
This guide covers choosing your connection mode, and understanding kayers of URX Core75.
Connection Switch
On the back of the keyboard, you will find the connection mode switch:
- BT (Left): Bluetooth Mode
- OFF (Center): Wired USB C Mode
- 2.4G (Right): 2.4GHz Wireless Mode
Windows and macOS Layout Toggle
- Press FN + S to toggle the layout between Windows and macOS.
- Blink Indication: The Caps Lock LED will blink in Yellow to confirm:
- 3 times for macOS Layout (Layer 2 active).
- 1 time for Windows Layout (Layer 0 active).
Understanding Keyboard Layers
The URX Core75 relies on function layers to pack a full keyboard's worth of features into a compact 75% form factor. Think of a layer like a shift key, but for the entire keyboard. The firmware uses 4 distinct layers (numbered 0 through 3) to handle both Windows and macOS layouts seamlessly:
- Layer 0 (Windows Base): The default primary layout used for everyday typing on Windows.
- Layer 1 (Windows Function): Accessed by holding the FN key while in Windows mode. Contains media controls, RGB settings, wireless toggles, and standard F-keys.
- Layer 2 (macOS Base): The primary layout active when toggled into macOS mode (automatically swaps the physical positions of the Alt and Windows/Command keys to match Apple keyboards).
- Layer 3 (macOS Function): Accessed by holding the FN key while in macOS mode. Contains Mac-specific F-row media and brightness controls.
You can fully customize the keymaps for all four layers using URX HUB or VIA.
Tip
To completely understand and utilize layers, you can read the proper documentation at https://docs.qmk.fm/feature_layers
Connection Modes Setup
1 Wired USB C Mode
- Set the Connection Switch to OFF (Center).
- Connect the included USB-C cable to the keyboard's Type-C port and your computer.
- You can also manually switch to USB mode by pressing FN + T (the T key will glow White to confirm). If no USB cable is connected, the T key will blink Red to indicate failure.
2 2.4GHz Wireless Mode
- Ensure that the 2.4GHz USB dongle is not connected to your computer.
- Set the Connection Switch to 2.4G (Right) or BT (Left).
- Press FN + R to switch the active mode to 2.4GHz (if you aren't already in it). The R key LED will flash Green slowly.
- Pairing: Press and hold FN + R for a few seconds until the R key LED flashes Green rapidly. This indicates the keyboard has entered pairing mode.
- Once the keyboard is in pairing mode, plug the dongle into a USB-A port on your computer. The keyboard will automatically connect to the dongle.
Warning
If the physical switch is in the OFF (Center) position, pressing FN + R will flash the R key Red and block the switch.
3 Bluetooth Multi Device Mode
The Core75 can pair with up to three devices simultaneously and switch between them using hotkeys.
Step by Step Connection
- Set the Connection Switch to BT (Left) or 2.4G (Right).
- Switch to BT Reconnecting Mode: Press FN + Q, FN + W, or FN + E depending on the channel you want to connect (for Bluetooth Channels 1, 2, and 3, respectively). The indicator LED under the matching key will flash Blue slowly.
- Pairing: Press and hold FN + Q, FN + W, or FN + E for 3 seconds depending on your channel until the matching key (Q, W, or E) flashes Blue rapidly. This indicates the keyboard has entered pairing mode.
- Open the Bluetooth settings on your host device (computer, phone, or tablet) and search for devices.
- Select URX Core75-1 (Channel 1), URX Core75-2 (Channel 2), or URX Core75-3 (Channel 3).
- The LED will turn solid Blue for a few seconds and then return to the normal backlight effect, indicating successful pairing.
Switching Between Paired Devices
Simply press FN + Q, FN + W, or FN + E. The corresponding key LED will light up Blue for 1 second, and the connection will swap within 1-2 seconds.
Warning
If the physical switch is in the OFF (Center) position, pressing FN + Q, W, or E will flash the corresponding key Red and block the switch.
